What is the difference between Lamin-x and the cheaper headlight and taillight films I find?
This is the perfect "You get what you pay for" situation, and there are plenty of examples of low-budget films out there. The less expensive films that flood auction and e-commerce sites are typically a thinner, 3 mil sticker type of film. These films usually have a dull, hazy, orange-peel finish, with a thin layer of adhesive and offer no impact protection. Because of the materials used, they are also more difficult to install. Lamin-x film is the complete opposite of the cheap stuff: Glossy finish, 12 to 40 mils thick for impact protection, and designed to mold around complex curves. Most people find the cheaper sticker overlays a waste of time and money - don't be one of them!
Are these films legal in my state?
Our colored films may not be legal for street use on a vehicle's primary lighting, and, as such, are sold with an off-road use disclosure. Please check your state or local laws before installation. Application of colored Lamin-x film on your primary lights is done so at your own risk.

What is 40mil? What is the thickness I need for my headlights?
A mil is a measurement of thickness. 1 mil is 1 thousandth of an inch. Our standard film, which is 12 mils thick, is used on headlights, taillights, and fog lights. Our 20 and 40 mil films are only available in clear, and can also be used on these lenses, as long as they are completely flat. The 8 mil film is paint protection film, also known as PPF, and is normally applied to a vehicle's painted surfaces.

Can I remove the film without damaging the light?
Lamin-x Protective Film can easily be removed without damaging the light. Upon initial application, the film can be peeled up and reapplied numerous times if not installed correctly. The film and its adhesive are designed for this! Once the film has settled (24-48 hours), the product is no longer considered reusable. To remove a long-term installation, warm the film and peel it off slowly. If there is any adhesive left on the lens, simply roll it into a ball using your finger or thumb. Use an adhesive remover, or a similar product that is safe for automotive finishes, to remove any left-over residue.
Can I do a custom design with Lamin-x?
Custom installations can easily be done with any form of our film: pre-cut, sheet, or bulk roll. Simply cover the desired surface and trim to your liking by scoring the top layers of the Lamin-x. No need to cut all the way through the film, just score it and peel away the unwanted film.
What do I do if I find fogginess, air or water bubbles, surface texture, or scratches after my Lamin-x installation?
Once the film fully cures, most imperfections will disappear completely. Lamin-x is a porous (breathable) and self-healing poly-vinyl film. Small scratches, trapped moisture, and most bubbles will dissipate on their own. However, if you encounter a stubborn bubble, you can poke it with a sewing needle and push out the air or water. The hole will eventually close on its own. Creases/ripples arising from installation will also settle over time.
How do I remove the film from lights?
Upon initial application, the film can be pulled up and reapplied numerous times until you are pleased with the results. However, after the film has settled (approximately 24-48 hours), the product is not considered reusable. To permanently remove the film, we recommend warming it with a heat gun, hair dryer, or simply by parking the car in the sunlight on a warm day. With the film warm, slowly peel the film from the lens surface. Any adhesive that may be left on the lens can be removed with a cleaner that is safe for use on an autos exterior. We recommend bug and tar remover.
I can't find a precut kit for my vehicle. What should I do?
You may find that we do not have a pre-cut kit available for a certain light, or in some cases, an entire vehicle. The best solution for this is the custom fitment of our Universal Covers. The preferred method for professional installers, applying an uncut sheet is just as easy and more forgiving. This is because the bulk sheets do not need to be perfectly aligned to fit properly - just cover the desired area and trim the film to your liking.
How do I know what size universal sheet I need?
Measure the surface where the film is going to be applied from top to bottom and side to side. Take into consideration any bends, bulges, or compound curves on the light's surface, as these features will increase the amount of material needed when wrapping. Once you have determined the dimensions, choose the most appropriate size for your need. Please contact us if you require a more custom size than what is listed. Note: A Tailor's Tape works best when measuring for bulk film.
Will the film burn?
We have seen occasional cases on fog lights in which the film and/or adhesive discolors due to fog light temperatures. If this occurs, please send photos so we can verify the concern; this may be covered under our 5 year warranty. We recommend only having the fog lights on while the vehicle is in motion, as the airflow will help to cool the lens surface. Leaving the fog lights on while the vehicle is parked can create too much heat and cause the adhesive to burn/discolor.
